Air Gap Device Used At The Disposal?

August 02, 2011

This was probably one of the strangest things that I have seen in quite a while. This renter used the Air Gap Device (which is suppose to be above the sink) to do two things under the sink. One line was the dishwasher drain line (which is improper) and the second line was the drain/overflow line for the reverse osmoses unit.

Big problem.

The Air Gap Device will only function properly if it has air flow at the top. This device is covered up by a hose. The dishwasher did not drain properly. It, in fact, did not fully drain at all, and who knows how much damage and back wash it put into the drinking water line. Next time consult with a licensed professional before a self fix such as this one.
